"Do I need to fast before my body scan? Can I drink water?"
If you've had an InBody scan before, you might have been told to avoid water for a few hours beforehand. The logic carries over — but with Bodydot, the rules are different.
Short answer : yes, you can drink water. Drink as much as you'd like.
Why InBody Restricts Water Intake

InBody uses Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) — it sends a mild electrical current through your body and measures resistance to estimate fat mass, muscle mass, and water distribution.
Because this method is sensitive to the electrical conductivity of body fluids, water intake directly affects the readings. More water in your system = different conductivity = different numbers. That's why InBody guidelines typically ask you to avoid eating or drinking for 2–3 hours before testing.
Bodydot Works Differently

Bodydot doesn't use electrical current. It doesn't measure anything inside your body.
Instead, it uses a 3D camera and an AI algorithm to photograph and analyze the external shape of your body — your posture, alignment, and proportions. The camera captures how your body looks from the front, back, and side. The AI measures 40 specific angles and alignments from that image.
None of this involves hydration levels. Whether you've had two glasses of water or none, your shoulder alignment and pelvic tilt look the same to the camera.
What Actually Matters Before a Bodydot Scan
If water doesn't matter, what does?
Factor | Impact on Bodydot |
Water intake | None |
Food/meals | None |
Clothing fit | High — wear fitted sportswear |
Natural posture | High — don't "pose" for the camera |
Time of day consistency | Medium — keep it the same across sessions |
Recent intense exercise | Low-medium — rest 30 min if possible |
The single most important preparation for a Bodydot scan is what you wear. Loose, baggy clothing hides your body's actual shape. Fitted leggings and athletic tops give the camera — and the AI — an accurate picture to work with.
Practical Guide
Before your Bodydot scan:
- ✅ Drink water normally
- ✅ Eat as usual
- ✅ Wear fitted leggings or compression wear
- ✅ Tie up long hair
- ❌ Don't try to stand "perfectly" — stand naturally
- ❌ Don't wear loose, oversized clothing
The Bottom Line
Bodydot looks at the outside. It sees how you hold yourself, not what's inside you. That means hydration, meals, and caffeine are off the list of things to worry about.
Come as you are. Just wear the right clothes.
